Annan Athletic run successful employability course

Annan Athletic have been running a successful 10 week course with Springboard to get unemployed people into work.

The Fit to Work programme, which is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions and The Robertson Scholarship Trust, allows participants the chance to achieve certificates such as first aid and food safety as well as visits to industry settings and help with CV’s etc.

Springboard have been working alongside the hospitality sector for sometime but this is the first time that they have gone into the world of sport.

We talked to Janet Butterworth, Regional Manager for Springboard and Henry McClelland, Annan Athletic Chairman about the course. We also spoke to the participants who have got jobs as a result of the course.

Thomas Early was on the course for nearly four weeks before he got a job at the Usual Place in Dumfries. David Savage has got a job as a Chef at Smiths in Gretna Green and Jamie Gordon has got a trial day and interview lined up with the same company and will be aiming for front of house operations.
